Santa Cruz was a 4 hour drive today. Traffic from Fremont to SC, nonstop.
Tinkering with my bike
Summer days; I will endlessly wear shorts, crop or tank tops, and bathing suit under, always
Today probably makes our top ten favorite days together. The 4 hour drive gave us time to listen to the best songs in my Ipod and I dissected songs while accepting the fact that we have nothing in common. We biked everywhere. Santa Cruz is bike capital. We got lost in the quiet neighborhoods and found our way to the busier part of town where we smiled like sunshine to the locals because they smiled like sunshine to us. We drank water like slaves and rode bikes like gladiators. We played Frisbee at the beach where we probably earned ourselves several splinters then went on about starting an ultimate Frisbee team. Trick kites are fun. I would've carried my camera around everywhere, but biking prevented me from that privilege and so I have pictures of arriving, taking a break, and leaving.
I considered living the Santa Cruz life for a second. Everyone seemed so carefree and at ease with their lifestyle. I couldn't help but compare them with the people here. We try so hard here, with everything. But when you're in Santa Cruz, you can be a bird. A free spirit. Go to the beach, ride your bike everywhere, play Frisbee, fly kites, longboard, walk around everywhere still wet from the beach, sink your feet under the sand. It seemed so easy. I fall deeply for the beach more and more every time I visit.
Rae and I are endlessly spending our summer days together. Back and forth from my house to his house, his friends to my friends, shopping trips, meal times, the beach, our favorite bike rides, and everything else in between. I cannot feel any more complete than when we're side by side. Raemon Farin drives me wild.
